This little box was purchased in Blenheim, NY. Wooden boxes were used for various purposes prior to the plastic bins that we have today. It is doubtful that it was ever used for travel since it doesn’t have the latches and construction a normal travel trunk would have. It measures 24” wide x 11” deep x 9-1/2” high. The original thin layer of black canvas was removed and the trunk has been sanded and finished with 2 coats of polyurethane. The color is the original patina of the wood and all of the tacks are original. The interesting handles are original. The latch is not original and has been added for ease in opening the box.
The inside has been stripped, cleaned and sealed with odor blocking shellac. It is lined with a taupe/rose cotton fabric.
Available at Settler's Block Antiques in Canajoharie.
Excellent little trunk to store treasures.
